Wellpoint is the health benefits company trusted by more individuals insured through the Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission (GIC). For over three decades, as the UniCare State Indemnity Plan, Wellpoint has served state and municipal employees, retirees, and their dependents insured through the GIC. As of July 1, 2024, our name is changing to Wellpoint – but our experience, dedication, and commitment to the hard-working public servants of our Commonwealth remains as ever.

About the GIC
The Group Insurance Commission of Massachusetts – the GIC – is the state agency responsible for Wellpoint’s plan design and for payment of all benefits. Funding and insurance for Wellpoint plan members are provided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Wellpoint provides administrative services such as claims processing, member services, and utilization management for the GIC.
