Transportation for members in Texas

Getting to your appointments

We don’t want transportation issues to stand in the way of getting the health care you need. To help you get to your medical appointments and services, we work with Access2Care in Texas.

Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services

We partner with Access2Care to provide non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services for STAR, STAR Kids, and STAR+PLUS members. STAR+PLUS nursing facility members have limited benefits — the nursing facility will provide most of your transportation needs. NEMT services do not include ambulance rides — if you’re having an emergency, please call 911.

You should request NEMT services as early as possible. Rides to appointments must be scheduled at least two business days in advance. If you need to travel out of town, or out of your service area, please call at least five business days before you need a ride. Visit the Services Area page to learn about the location of your service area.

You can request a NEMT service with less than 48 hours’ notice in certain situations:

Trips home after being discharged from a hospital.

Trips to the pharmacy to pick up medication or approved medical supplies.

Trips for urgent conditions that aren’t emergencies but are severe or painful enough to require treatment within 24 hours.
