Using your Wellpoint insurance card

Your Wellpoint insurance card helps you use your health insurance benefits. It has information your doctor needs to make sure you have coverage. This includes your policy number, personal details, and more. Just show your Wellpoint ID card when you visit your doctor, pharmacy, or any place you get health care.

How to access your Wellpoint insurance card

When you sign up for a health insurance plan, Wellpoint mails a card to the address you provide within a few weeks. You can also get a digital version of your Wellpoint insurance card. Just download the SydneySM Health app on your phone:

Sydney Health helps you manage your insurance information, find providers, check the status of a claim, and more— all from your phone. If you don’t have the app, you can get your card online through the Wellpoint member portal. Log in to your Wellpoint account to view your digital card and other details.

What to know about your Wellpoint insurance card

Your Wellpoint insurance card has important information your healthcare provider needs to check your insurance, including:

  • Wellpoint policy number. This is your personal member ID, which healthcare providers use to verify your coverage. You’ll find it on the front of your card.
  • Group number. If you have insurance through your job, your group number shows your doctor the specific Wellpoint plan your employer offers to help them bill their services correctly. It is usually below the Wellpoint policy number.
  • Copay. Depending on your plan, you might pay copays, or fixed amounts you pay for certain medical services. If your plan has copays, the front of your card shows how much you pay.

Your Wellpoint ID card may also have other details like prescription-specific codes (Rx numbers) and customer service numbers. The Rx information is found on the front of your ID card and customer service numbers are on the back of your ID card. For Individual and Family plan customer service, hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time daily October 1 through March 31 and Monday to Friday from April 1 through September 30. For Medicare and Medicaid, hours vary by state. Check your member handbook or Sydney Health app for current hours. TTY users should call 711.
