What is a Wellpoint Benefits Prepaid Card (flex card)?

A Wellpoint Benefits Prepaid Card (flex card) is a prepaid benefits card that works just like a credit or debit card. It’s available with most Wellpoint Medicare Advantage plans.

What can you buy with a flex card?

If you’re eligible, you can use it to help pay for goods approved by your plan, including:

Over-the-counter health items such as toothpaste, vitamins, and more at participating retailers.

Groceries such as fresh meats and vegetables, frozen meats, dairy items, canned goods, and more at participating stores.

Assistive devices such as handrails, shower stools, and more.

Out-of-pocket costs related to your dental, vision, or hearing needs (flex account).

Utilities such as gas, water, electric, cable, or cell phones (flex account).

You may also be able to use it to pay for certain Essential Extras.

How do I get a flex card?

You’ll have to enroll in one of our Medicare Advantage plans to qualify. Think of your flex card as a nice perk for having a Wellpoint Medicare Advantage plan.

Not all plans include a flex card, and benefits may differ based on the plan you choose. You or your doctor may need to confirm you qualify for certain benefits. Unused benefit allowances do not roll over monthly or annually.

Wellpoint and Carelon Health plans are Medicare Advantage plans with Medicare contracts. Wellpoint and Carelon Health plans are SNP plans with a Medicare contract and a contract with the state Medicaid program. Enrollment in Wellpoint or Carelon Health depends on contract renewal.
