Unlike Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans have limits on your out-of-pocket payments. That means you’ll have more predictable costs for things like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. Most also include:

  • $0 or low monthly premiums
  • $0 or low prescription copays
  • $0 or low copays for primary care visits
  • No medical deductible

Enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan

You can purchase a Washington Medicare Advantage plan once you’re enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A and B). For most people, this is during their seven-month Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). This includes the:

  • Three months before you turn 65
  • Month you turn 65
  • Three months after you turn 65

You might also be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period, which allows you to delay your enrollment without late penalties. Certain times each year and special circumstances allow you to add, drop, or change your Medicare Advantage plan.

Is a Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan better for you?

 

If you’re living with a chronic condition that requires additional care or need to cover health costs on a fixed or low income, you may qualify for a Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan (SNP). These plans cover Original Medicare Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) with other useful benefits.

Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP)

 

D-SNP plans offer support and care for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. You’ll need to check your eligibility based on your situation.

Chronic Conditions Special Needs Plan (C-SNP)


Offers support and care for people living with chronic conditions like end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

2 Depending on your plan, the benefits listed may be available through the Medicare Advantage Value-Based Insurance Design Model or to eligible members as Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill (SSBCI). You may qualify for SSBCI if you have a high risk for hospitalization and require intensive care coordination to manage chronic conditions such as Chronic Kidney Diseases, Chronic Lung Disorders, Cardiovascular Disorders, Chronic Heart Failure, or Diabetes. For a full list of chronic conditions or to learn more about other eligibility requirements needed to qualify for SSBCI benefits, please refer to Chapter 4 in the plan’s Evidence of Coverage.

 

Wellpoint Washington, Inc. is an HMO D-SNP plan with a Medicare contract and a contract with the Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) program. Enrollment in Wellpoint Washington, Inc. depends on contract renewal.

 

Wellpoint, a Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare Contract, offers HMO, HMO D-SNP, HMO C-SNP, HMO I-SNP, LPPO, and PDP plans. Wellpoint HMO D-SNP plans additionally contract with state Medicaid programs. Enrollment in a Wellpoint health plan depends on contract renewal.
